Department of General Engineering

About Department

Department of General engineering was started in 1952.  Department since its inception has taken care of teaching basic courses related to Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering and advance course of Process equipment design, Mold design and drawing for undergraduates. The postgraduate course of Master in Plastic Engineering was started by the department from the year 1972. Department has produced distinguished alumni who occupy key positions of research, development, design, production and consultants in major plastic industries. Some of our alumni have completed their doctoral degrees and handling R&D departments of the industries successfully. Few of them have become a successful entrepreneurs. Presently few industry-sponsored candidates sponsored by industries like Dow, TVS motors, BASF are doing M E and Ph.D. in our department.  The department has laboratory facilities such as Engineering Workshop, Electrical and Electronics, Structural Mechanics, Drawing halls catering to the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Institute.  Plastic processing and testing laboratory, CAD/ CAM & CAE facilities with various mold analysis and design software.  A number of open elective courses are offered by department elective for postgraduate students of the institute. Department faculty are presently handling in collaboration with Department of Oils about 4 Crore project under Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission, Govt of Maharashtra "Pilot study and evaluation of the production of green surfactants from non-edible/edible oils and treated oilseed meals" as well as a socially relevant project of Rs. 1.98 Crores from DST to Mitigate the water problem and Recycle & Reuse of water in the town of Ausa, Dist: Latur.  The department also carries out the equipment and infrastructure maintenance of the entire campus. Faculty members are also involved in the development of the campus, course curriculum and administration not only in Mumbai but also at Jalna and Bhubaneshwar.  Some of the faculty is a member of the academic council and board of studies of various institutes and Universities. Some of the faculty members are involved in activities of professional bodies.  Besides Plastic Engineering, the department is having many research candidates in the field of Mechanical, Electrical/ Electronics and Civil Engineering.
